Interview Questions for First Timers

If you are a parent helping your child prepare for their first job interview or if you are an eager young person trying to figure this world of work out, it might be a challenging assignment. If you don’t know where to start, follow these guidelines for a positive step in the right direction.

Interview Questions for First Timers to Think About

1. Tell me a bit about yourself.

2. What are two strengths that you have?

3. Tell me about one area you want to improve in and why.

4. Why does this job interest you?

5. What is your most memorable accomplishment?

6. Tell me about a time when you had to be really organized in order to get a project completed.

7. What kinds of things have you done that were beyond expectations?

8. Give me an example of when you had to make a split second decision.

9. What motivates you to put forth your greatest effort?

10. Have you ever had difficulty getting others to accept your ideas? What was your approach? Did it work?

11. Tell me about a time when you had a challenging problem. What was the problem? How did you overcome it?

12. Under what circumstances would you steal from someone?

13. What does working hard mean to you?

14. If you were to work here, how would you know when you did a good job?

15. When you are in a new work place, describe how you would go about meeting and developing relationships with your co-workers or supervisor.

 

 What Employers Look For:

 Initial Impressions:

• Good handshake

• Being on time

• Good eye contact

• Smile

• Turn cell phone off and put away+++++++

• As much we love our Tim’s, don’t bring one to the interview unless you have one for your interviewer

 

Appearance should include:

• Proper dress (clean, neat clothing)

• Clean all over – good hygiene

• Stand straight – good posture

• Don’t chew gum

Communication:

• Self-Confident

• Speaking respectfully

• Speaking clearly

• Team oriented

Other things they may look for:

• What’s on your Facebook page – they can find out!!!

• Motivation/interest in the job

• Outside interests

• Leadership skills

• Volunteering++++++ (are you community minded and give back)

 After the interview:

• Send a Thank you note++++ either by email or a real greeting card – show the interviewer you are different
